STS Technical Services is hiring Fabricators in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Position Overview:

Ultra Fabricator has successful experience with part fabrication and can assemble Ultra products with minimal assistance from Ultra Senior Fabricators. This position can successfully execute most stages of Ultra production from reading blueprints, producing material and hardware lists, part fabrication, assembly, final quality inspection and packaging with minimal assistance.  Fabricators have displayed positive contributions to the progression of the Ultra organization through positive attitude and continue to progress Team Ultra associates in continuous production improvement, customer service and quality.

Based on workload and customer requirements, occasional weekends along with mandatory overtime may be required to successfully fulfill the needs of this position.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, layout, and fabricate Ultra products consisting of, but not limited to, staircases, platforms, handrails, ladders, walkovers, and landings
  • Interpret blueprints and engineered drawings to create structural fiberglass products
  • Apply knowledge of shop mathematics to mark dimensions for assembling parts and components
  • Proficient use of squares, levels and measuring devices to parts and components to ensure excellent product quality
  • Exhibit safe work habits through use of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Stage, process, prepare, package and transport material through the manufacturing process
  • Contribute to positive teamwork with Team Ultra associates, customers, and vendors
  • Perform part fabrication, material handling, shipping and receiving and project management duties as needed.
  • Assist with general shop duties and provide support to Ultra team as needed to achieve performance goals, excellent service, customer solutions and high quality products
  • Maintain good work habits to ensure a clean work environment free of clutter and waste
  • Share complaints, opportunities and associate issues with Operations Managers for investigation, coaching and resolution

Features of the Job:

Assignments are typically in the form of specific tasks.  Associate has latitude for independent action in setting objectives and deciding how to proceed.  An Associate’s error in judgment could have a significant impact in terms of time, money, or public/employee goodwill. This position requires contacts within the department and with other departments in the Company, as well as with supervisors, managers and executives.  The Associate has a high level of responsibility for the equipment and materials used.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • General understanding of Ultra manufacturing positions and their functions that include parts fabrication, shipping and material management
  • Knowledge of Ultra staircases, platforms, handrails, ladders, walkovers and landings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and interpret written work instructions and blueprints
  • Trained on safe operation of fork trucks and power tools
  • Understanding and practice of safety through use of personal protection equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a group environment
  • Strong skills using mechanical and pneumatic power tools including drills, saws and routers
  • Proficient using hand tools such as tape measures, screw drivers, wrenches and files

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 1 to 3 years of progressive work experience is generally needed to meet job standards. Completion of the Parts Fabricator checklist is required for this position.  To attain satisfactory performance standards under normal supervision, 3 to 6 months of experience on the job is normally required.

Language Skills:

Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and associates of the organization. Fabricators must effectively communicate with all levels of Ultra management and associates.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to interpret blueprints and engineered drawings.

Reasoning Ability:

Able to understand and implement instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Common sense problem solving skills involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The associate is occasionally required to climb and is frequently is required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to frequently lift 1-10 pounds; occasionally lift 10-30 pounds and infrequently lift up to 80 pounds. When lifting more than 80 pounds, seek assistance from other Team Ultra Associates. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, associate regularly works near operating power tools and related components.  The associate occasionally works in high, precarious places, is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and within a non-climate controlled environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Extreme caution and attention is required to prevent injury to other workers.
