Mechanical Coordinators Direct Hire

Right now, ARAUCO is hiring Mechanical Coordinators in Grayling, Michigan!

Primary Purpose:

Coordinates activities of and is a coach for maintenance staff (and Technicians as appropriate on maintenance down days) engaged in the repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment on either a planned or breakdown basis. Participates in such work. Ensures staff engages in appropriate follow-up from previous shifts, shift rounds, work orders. The goal is to achieve a high degree of mill reliability.

Description of Essential Duties:

  • Oversees the mechanical staff in the execution of their duties with a view to achieving the highest degree of safety and mill reliability as possible
  • Responsible to ensure the duties of Mechanics are executed to the highest level of professionalism
  • Participates in maintenance work as well as overseeing such work
  • Is a mentor for quality workmanship and safe work habits
  • Plans maintenance down day work and coaches others in acceptable planning practices, job box preparation, etc.
  • Is a model for teamwork behaviors and living to the culture at ARAUCO
  • Is a leader in the application of ARP (Asset Reliability Process)
  • Is an EOM Shutdown leaders
  • Assists in planning, developing, and implementing new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and affect greater utilization of labor and materials
  • Generates and reviews job orders to determine work priorities
  • Utilize preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff
  • Works closely with Planners to execute the work required on the mill with a view to achieving continuous operations
  • Scheduled DT is organized to achieve the best mill metrics possible
  • Assists in coordination of activities of staff or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products
  • Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities
  • Inspect machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards
  • Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with maintenance and operations staff
  • Assists in training and orientation of staff to improve work performance, work safely, understand the teamwork expectation and live to the ARAUCO culture
  • Participates in weekend on-call responsibilities

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum five years’ experience in a mechanical supervisory level
  • Mechanical Technology Diploma and/or Trade designation related to the Mechanical Maintenance Field
  • Degree in maintenance, mechanical engineering or related field of study would be an asset
  • Experience in wood or paper products manufacturing preferred
  • SAP systems knowledge preferred
  • Ability to undertake multiple projects and manage key business metrics
  • Experience overseeing and leading a group of trades staff in a team environment
  • Welding and Fabrication skilled preferred
  • Ability to use a variety of mechanical troubleshooting equipment and techniques (ie. laser alignment)
  • Familiarity of the basic functions of a CMMS system preferred
  • Experience in reliability techniques & knowledge of lubrication principles is an asset
  • Strong, demonstrated mechanical skills
  • Strong, demonstrated troubleshooting skills
  • Have a focus on continuous improvement and an understanding of what drives improved uptime metrics
  • Ability to look for improvement opportunities, optimize to increase efficiencies and overall equipment uptime
  • Solid understanding of maintenance procedures and best practices
  • Familiarity of the basic functions of a CMMS system
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and lead self-directed work teams
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Self-motivated and strong organizational skills
  • Strong problem solver
  • Ability to prioritize workload independently and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to understand, develop and implement work order PM’s
  • Proven ability to be a self-motivated and a self-starter required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook preferred
  • Ability to work extended hours and rotating shift as required
  • Experience installing capital equipment and working with major equipment shutdowns is an asset

Key Safety/Housekeeping Responsibilities:

  • Participates in mill safety audits
  • Demonstrates through use of and participation in applying all required safety policies and procedures
  • Works actively to maintain housekeeping responsibilities in assigned area
  • Demonstrates good housekeeping practices during repair jobs and appropriate clean-up when jobs are completed
  • When directly overseeing contractor work, completes Contractor Work Permits and Laser Forms, lockout and permit documentation
  • Maintains lockout certifications as assigned
  • Responsible to stay current in JSP’s review, area specific orientations, lockout certifications and re-certifications, safety quizzes, etc. that are specific to the maintenance group
  • Responsible for taking your safety and the safety of your co-workers as the primary consideration when performing work
  • Responsible for completing safety work orders in a timely fashion based on clear understanding of priority
  • Lead the process of shutting down a piece of equipment or area that you believe poses a potential safety concern to those working in the area or may result in serious equipment damage
  • Lead on shift safety support for maintenance related activities
  • Lead the on shift “Job Specific Contact” for contractors
  • Participates in all mill safety programs (ie; hazard alert program, Laser, confined space, Hot works, etc.) identified to maintain a high level of safety awareness in the mill

Budget Responsibilities:

  • Participates in costing repair jobs and new installations
