Production Coordinators – Hot End Operations Direct Hire

Right now, ARAUCO is hiring Production Coordinators – Hot End Operations in Grayling, Michigan!

Primary Purpose:

Provides overall leadership, direction and consistency for safety, product quality, costs and production for the hot end operation of the mill. Manages the day to day activities for the Hot End. Provides oversight for the optimization of all hot end processes. Optimization includes, but not limited to, ensuring process operators have the skill sets necessary to respond to safety, throughput, quality and teamwork expectations. Works to ensure operations and maintenance are working hand in hand to provide reliable equipment, and active in pursuing opportunities to improve cost, quality, safety, and throughout.

Description of Essential Duties:

  • Monitor, and optimize production process
  • Prepares and communicates production and downtime reports to all Technicians for education and focus
  • Goal is to continually improve all uptime, throughput and quality metrics that can be affected by the finishing end processes and staff
  • Provides oversight and leadership for Technicians and the equipment they operate for knife ring rebuild, energy plant, drying, screening, milling, blending, forming, pressing, flying saw, quality, related operator rounds and housekeeping of all areas
  • Monitor and optimize the production of “A” grade board and waste reduction for the hot end to achieve the best possible metrics
  • Work closely with Maintenance group to ensure all equipment is reliable and in top running condition
  • Communicate such work after down days and extended shutdowns to keep the operators in the know
  • Responsible for staff development within ownerships
  • Keep all workers compliant and updated on Safety area training, JHA’s, annual orientations, lockout certification
  • Responsible for development and execution of training plans for areas of responsibility and sign off on competencies by role
  • Maximize efficiencies of workforce
  • Focus on opportunity work and balancing work schedules to match work load demands
  • Work on optimization projects to maintain the professional and clean appearance of the mill
  • Need to know industry technology and what our opportunities may be
  • Attend daily operational meetings and lead functional areas meetings as required
  • Manage area budget accounts
  • Continually work on optimizing costs for area
  • Manage operating supplies to ensure we do not run out of needed consumables and tools
  • Participates in weekend on-call responsibilities
  • Work hand in hand with maintenance to ensure all equipment is in good working condition, is maintained for optimum performance and scheduled for DT that makes the best economic sense for our business
  • Work with scheduling and production to look for opportunities to optimize the schedule to assist in building in the necessary scheduled down days
  • Communicates with and supports the initiatives of upstream and downstream customers in the manufacturing process with a view to continually improving their products and services
  • Arranges for the training of Technicians
  • Audit employee training plans through monthly verification of progress through hands on demonstrations
  • Be the expert and go to for questions related to the hot end processes
  • Track and measure performance of the hot end machine centers as well as teams, and provide feedback and recommendation for opportunities for improvement
  • Continuously look for ways to optimize the hot end from a machine, training, safety and supply perspective (i.e. new products, lower costs, trials, etc.)
  • Participates in customer visits at mill and away
  • Monitors and implements detailed rounds and opportunity work
  • Delivers Technician and contractor orientations

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory/leadership experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in a manufacturing process, preferably in engineered wood products
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Action oriented with high energy, drive and enthusiasm
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to meet deadlines
  • A demonstrated leader of people
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word

  • Supports ISO and cross training initiatives

Key Safety/Housekeeping Responsibilities:

  • Is a model for safety behavior and coaches others to be the same
  • Participates in all mill safety programs
  • Maintains a high level of safety awareness in the mill
  • Participates in mill safety audits
  • Maintains LOTO certification in all areas where work is required
  • Participate in the development of LOTO procedures for new and existing equipment
  • Ensures areas of responsibility have exemplary housekeeping

Budget Responsibilities:

  • Hot end consumables budget
  • Ensures work completed and supplies used is within budgetary constraints
  • Complete budgets of specialized projects related to specific work
  • Participates in Annual Plan/Budget preparation
