General Summary:

The Round Tools & Services Engineering Manager is responsible for Leading Product, Project, and People Management for the Round Tools & Services Business Unit.  The idea candidate will possess, at a minimum, intermediate analytical capabilities. They will accurately interpret technical specifications, and will provide superior service to customers, cross functional teams, as well as to other personnel as to expertly execute issues and expectations.

We are looking for a trustworthy and proactive Engineering Manager who has proven technical experience and leadership skills with a strong emphasis on design/product development and people management for Round Tools & Services Business Unit. The primary focus areas are the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, build and manage diverse teams of design and process engineers from different disciplines, formulate and execute strategies, and coordinate with other managers. Additional responsibilities will entail researching and developing new designs and products, proposing budgets for projects, and overseeing all the activities related to each project.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide input into segment and other company plans / marketing content as requested by the responsible internal party.  Contribute to the plans / forecasts for assigned product categories.
  • Serve as a member of Clients customer-facing leadership team for purposes of input and decision-making.
  • Support Marketing Strategy Specialist in developing segmentation / mapping scheme along with assessing the competitive landscape from the assigned product category perspective.
  • Provide support on specific selling opportunities as directed by Product Leader
  • Serve as the commercial / manufacturing liaison for assigned product categories in the S&OP process.
  • Work directly with and gather insights from customers to understand their perspectives and needs.
  • Track and ensure proper dissemination of product standards for assigned categories, including customer-specific standards, industry standards and Company standards.
  • Create the basic strategy for assigned product categories based on the organization’s core competencies and over-arching strategies – including positioning and pricing, differentiators / corresponding messaging, and offering breadth. This includes growth and profitability goals as well.
  • Lead the creation and management of the product roadmap for assigned product categories by working with engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, and sales.  A product roadmap includes new product introductions, managing through maturity and phase-out.
  • Work with marketing, sales, manufacturing, and supply chain to plan and implement product launches for assigned product categories.
  • Built-out technical specifications and descriptions; assist in the development of sales and marketing tools utilizing the content.
  • Manage the overall P&L for assigned product categories; take actions to drive growth and increase margins as appropriate.  Collaborate with other functions to develop costing and set pricing based on perceived value delivery and competitiveness.
  • Serve as the final line of product support for assigned product categories.
  • Create and deliver technical training, both internally and externally. Utilize standard training framework established by Sales Operations Leader.
  • Contribute best-practice learnings to the best practice database.
  • Remove barriers and resolve challenges for direct reports.
  • With support from Human Resources and other customer-facing leaders, lead direct reports’ life cycle.
  • Ensure direct reports’ current core competencies and build skills for their next role.
  • Drive the performance reviews and career planning process for direct reports.
  • Provide input, coaching and ‘ride a longs’ to direct reports

Engineering Manager Job Responsibilities:

Designs, implements, and refines product development, testing, and manufacturing processes in support of the Round Tools & Services Business Unit.

  • Manages staff and assigns tasks to engineering and technical personnel.
  • Leads teams in the development of new products, solutions, and processes.
  • Oversees project logistics and resource allocation.
  • Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste.
  • Secures the resources needed for teams to excel, including researching, and proposing capital investments.
  • Helps to create and oversee project budgets and engages in cost management strategies.
  • Attends trade shows and conferences and makes site visits to customer and suppliers’ facilities.
  • Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success.
  • Communicates technical information to non-technical stakeholders, including investors and potential customers.
  • Maintains high level expertise in their field or sector.
  • Assures that processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines.
  • Collaborates with other team leaders and departments.
  • Forges and maintains relationships with suppliers and customers.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Expertise in precision Round Cutting Tools; (high tolerances / carbide and PCD a plus)
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Solidworks Programing and/or background a plus
  • Application usage of round tools in the field with customers
  • Develop and implement process improvements.
  • Knowledge of twist drills, straight flute drills, deep hole drills
  • Able to assist account representatives with customer designs and print interpretation questions.
  • Experience using Solidworks preferred but similar experience with CAD, CAM, 3D modeling, Blueprint reading, data analysis programs, and related software is sufficient.

  • Experience using ERP business system software, Syteline experience a plus.

Education & Experience:

  • Education and/or Experience:  bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering OR related field.
  • 5 to 7+ years’ experience in plant/manufacturing operations.
  •  5+ years of management experience with direct supervisor responsibility
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors and employees.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
