STS Technical Services is hiring Lead Field Service Technician candidates who live east of the Mississippi River and can travel up to 90 percent. This non-exempt role serves as the primary customer-facing technical leader responsible for guiding field technicians during installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of industrial heat transfer equipment.
This position requires strong industrial field service experience, hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, professional customer communication and the ability to lead crews safely and effectively at customer sites.
Position Overview
The Lead Field Service Technician provides on-site leadership for field technicians while ensuring safe work execution, high-quality service and clear coordination between customers and internal departments.
This role supports installation, commissioning, inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work involving air fin coolers, plate heat exchangers, shell and tube heat exchangers and related industrial equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead field technicians during installations, commissioning, inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs
- Serve as the primary customer contact on site
- Provide professional project updates to customers
- Lead daily safety meetings
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, customer and company safety requirements
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and control system issues
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs and service documentation
- Inspect, diagnose, repair and commission air fin coolers, plate heat exchangers, shell and tube heat exchangers and related equipment
- Coordinate activities with Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing and Quality
- Complete detailed digital service reports
- Recommend corrective actions
- Train and mentor technicians while maintaining high workmanship standards
- Travel to customer sites as business requires

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional customer-facing presence
- Conflict resolution and expectation management skills
- Ability to read electrical schematics
- Ability to troubleshoot motors, VFDs, sensors and controls
- Ability to use multimeters, megohmmeters and clamp meters
- Knowledge of LOTO and electrical safety
- Ability to repair pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes and couplings
- Ability to perform alignments and mechanical inspections
- Preferred experience with AFCs, plate heat exchangers and shell and tube heat exchangers
- Commissioning, troubleshooting and performance evaluation experience
- Microsoft Office skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a passport and TWIC
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial field service experience
- At least 2 years of experience leading crews preferred
