STS Technical Services is hiring a Field Service Technician I in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. This non-exempt role is focused on safe installation, preventive maintenance and hands-on support for industrial heat exchanger equipment.
This is an entry-level field service opportunity for someone with mechanical aptitude, basic industrial electrical knowledge and a willingness to learn while supporting senior technicians at customer sites. Travel is expected up to 80 percent.
Position Overview
The Field Service Technician I assists with installation, startup, commissioning, preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs for industrial heat exchanger equipment.
This role supports work on air fin coolers, dry coolers, plate heat exchangers and related systems while developing the technical skills needed to advance into higher-level field service responsibilities.

- Travel: Up to 80 percent
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with installation, startup and commissioning of heat exchanger equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections using established procedures
- Assist with repair of air fin coolers, including fan blades, bearings, belts, motors and gearbox components
- Assist with repair of dry coolers, including EC fans, motors, coils and hydronic components
- Assist with plate heat exchanger disassembly, plate cleaning, gasket replacement, inspection and reassembly
- Read mechanical drawings and work instructions
- Complete electronic service reports and photo documentation
- Maintain professional customer communication
- Comply with OSHA, LOTO, PPE, JHA and customer safety requirements
- Maintain company tools, equipment and vehicles
- Travel to customer sites as required

Product Specific Responsibilities
- Air Fin Coolers: fan blades, bearings, belts, gearboxes and lubrication
- Dry Coolers: EC fans, motors, coils, glycol systems and sensors
- Plate Heat Exchangers: plate identification, gasket replacement, cleaning, frame inspection and leak identification
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Basic industrial electrical knowledge
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Ability to read blueprints and drawings
- Basic Microsoft Office and Outlook skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Teamwork and problem-solving ability
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree, trade school, military technical training or equivalent experience
- 0 to 2 years of industrial maintenance, HVAC, mechanical or field service experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain passport and TWIC card
- Ability to travel up to 80 percent

- Forklift
- MEWP
- First Aid/CPR
Career Progression
The Field Service Technician I can advance to Field Service Technician II by demonstrating proficiency in safety, preventive maintenance, customer communication and basic troubleshooting.
