STS Technical Services is hiring a Weld Quality Technician in West Point, Mississippi, to support in-process weld inspection, quality documentation and compliance within a manufacturing environment.
This role is responsible for inspecting welds against customer specifications and company quality requirements, documenting inspection results and monitoring repairs of non-conforming welds. The ideal candidate has experience reading weld drawings, interpreting welding symbols and using standard weld inspection tools.
Position Overview
The Weld Quality Technician performs in-process inspections to verify weld quality, dimensional requirements and compliance with applicable customer and AWS acceptance criteria.
This position also reviews welding and NDT documentation, monitors welder qualification testing, supports repair and rework inspections and maintains accurate quality records throughout the manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
- Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Review Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)
- Review Welder Qualification Records (WPQR)
- Review Non-Destructive Testing final test reports
- Complete in-process inspection records
- Monitor and approve in-process repairs of non-conforming welds
- Verify required NDT results are properly documented on inspection records
- Confirm welds meet customer and/or AWS acceptance criteria
- Confirm all required parts are present and properly oriented according to detailed drawings
- Document identified defects on inspection logs
- Re-inspect repaired or reworked welds following initial inspection
- Monitor welder qualification testing
- Develop visual inspection procedures
- Provide NDT inspection planning schedules
- Provide training to welders and inspectors in accordance with established repair procedures
- Track weld defect data and report findings to the Quality Assurance Manager
- Verify compliance with safety requirements
- Review contract requirements and vendor contract compliance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret welding symbols on weld drawings
- Proficiency using weld inspection tools including weld gauges, NDT equipment and micrometers
- At least two years of experience reviewing and interpreting structural steel plans, working drawings and technical specifications
- Ability to clearly communicate welding issues and quality concerns to team members and supervisors
- Must qualify as a U.S. Person
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or previous Certified Welding Inspector certification in accordance with AWS QC1
- Canadian Welding Bureau Level II certification
- Certificate from a combination welding program
- Associate degree
- NDT Level II certification in Magnetic Particle Testing and/or Penetrant Testing
- Weld inspection experience involving military vehicles
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to work in extreme cold and hot temperatures
- Ability to squat and kneel
- Ability to push and pull
- Ability to stand for extended periods
