
STS Technical Services is hiring an Electronics Assembly Supervisor in West Point, Mississippi.
This role leads the day-to-day operations of an electronics assembly area supporting defense vehicle platforms, with responsibility for production scheduling, workforce development, quality enforcement and adherence to engineering and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on electronics assembly experience with proven production leadership and a strong working knowledge of soldering, wiring, cable assembly, IPC standards and regulated manufacturing processes.
Position Overview
The Electronics Assembly Supervisor will coordinate the daily activities of electronics assembly technicians and assemblers across one or more production lines.
This position is responsible for maintaining production schedules, monitoring workmanship and quality, developing team members and ensuring assembly, soldering, wiring and testing activities conform to engineering drawings, IPC standards and customer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of electronics assembly technicians and assemblers
- Schedule work across one or more production lines
- Assign work based on production priorities, employee skill levels and schedule requirements
- Review and interpret engineering drawings
- Read wiring diagrams and electrical schematics
- Follow work instructions to ensure assembly accuracy
- Monitor production output and schedule adherence
- Track quality metrics
- Adjust staffing or production methods as needed
- Escalate production and quality issues when required
- Enforce IPC-A-610 workmanship standards
- Enforce IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements
- Enforce J-STD-001 workmanship standards
- Conduct first-article inspections
- Perform in-process inspections
- Verify solder joints
- Inspect wire routing and connector terminations
- Verify component placement against engineering drawings
- Train and mentor electronics assemblers
- Cross-train team members on assembly processes
- Train employees on equipment and quality requirements
- Conduct performance evaluations
- Provide coaching and feedback
- Support disciplinary actions in coordination with HR
- Ensure work is properly documented on travelers and routers
- Maintain required production tracking documentation
- Enforce safety policies and PPE requirements
- Enforce ESD handling procedures
- Participate in root cause analysis
- Support corrective action activities
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Coordinate with Engineering, Quality and Planning teams
- Support ECNs and process changes
- Coordinate around material shortages
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Support 5S requirements throughout the electronics assembly area
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of five years of hands-on electronics assembly experience in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum of two years of supervisory or lead experience directing production personnel
- Knowledge of through-hole soldering techniques
- Knowledge of surface mount soldering techniques
- Experience with wire harnessing
- Experience with cable assembly
- Experience with connector termination
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics
- Ability to work from bills of materials
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 workmanship standards
- Experience using soldering stations
- Experience using crimpers and wire strippers
- Experience using multimeters
- Experience using oscilloscopes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead a diverse production team
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in electronics, electrical technology or a related field
- IPC-A-610 CIS or CIT certification
- J-STD-001 certification
- Experience in defense manufacturing
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing
- Experience in another regulated manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with ESD control programs based on ANSI/ESD S20.20
- Experience with ERP or MES systems
- Production tracking experience
- Labor reporting experience
- Lean manufacturing experience
- 5S experience
- Six Sigma experience
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the production floor
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds regularly
- Manual dexterity required to inspect fine-pitch solder work and small electronic components
- Visual acuity sufficient for detailed electronics inspection
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise
- Ability to work around ESD-sensitive materials
- Exposure to soldering fumes
- Required use of safety glasses
- Required use of steel-toed boots
- Required use of hearing protection
