STS Technical Services is hiring an Engineering Project Manager (ETO) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

This role supports a growing manufacturing company and its GEN Engineering division, with a focus on custom engineer-to-order projects. The Engineering Project Manager will coordinate schedules, monitor production flow, track materials, support resource planning and help keep multiple projects aligned with customer requirements and delivery commitments.

This opportunity is well suited for a junior- to mid-level project management professional with experience in manufacturing, engineering, industrial operations, fabrication or construction. Strong Smartsheet experience is central to the role, including building and maintaining schedules, dashboards, automations and workflows that provide real-time visibility across the project pipeline.

Position Overview

The Engineering Project Manager will support custom ETO manufacturing projects from engineering review through production and shipment.

This position requires close coordination with engineering, purchasing, production, shipping, sales and operations teams. The selected candidate will help maintain schedules, identify risks, monitor materials, manage competing priorities and ensure project information remains accurate and accessible across departments.

A significant part of the role involves Smartsheet process engineering. This includes developing the scheduling infrastructure, reporting tools and workflow automations needed to support a growing ETO manufacturing operation.

Project Coordination and Execution

  • Manage multiple custom manufacturing projects through daily, weekly and monthly production schedules
  • Support project execution from engineering review through production and final shipment
  • Track project milestones, timelines and deliverables
  • Help ensure customer requirements and delivery commitments are met
  • Identify and help resolve production bottlenecks and workflow disruptions
  • Monitor long-lead materials and critical components that could affect project schedules
  • Adjust project priorities based on engineering changes, production demands and supply chain updates
  • Maintain accurate project records and scheduling information

Smartsheet Process Engineering and Workflow Management

  • Design, build and maintain Smartsheet schedules, dashboards, reports and automations
  • Develop Smartsheet workflows and templates tailored to engineer-to-order manufacturing projects
  • Build and refine formulas that improve scheduling accuracy and project visibility
  • Maintain real-time project status dashboards for internal teams
  • Improve workflow coordination between engineering, purchasing, production, shipping and sales
  • Update project schedules based on material availability, production progress and engineering changes
  • Create reporting tools that support project reviews, capacity planning and leadership visibility
  • Identify opportunities to improve scheduling processes and project controls

Resource Management

  • Support resource allocation across engineering and production teams
  • Assist with capacity planning for multiple concurrent projects
  • Track team workloads and identify potential resource constraints
  • Coordinate with engineering and production leaders to balance staffing against project priorities
  • Flag capacity issues that could affect project timelines or customer commitments
  • Help maintain visibility into current and upcoming resource demands

Production and Engineering Support

  • Review engineering drawings, bills of materials and project documentation before production release
  • Follow up on incoming materials, inventory and custom components
  • Help ensure projects are organized and ready before entering production
  • Conduct occasional hands-on inspections of components to verify readiness and accuracy
  • Confirm that project documentation is complete and available to production teams
  • Support engineering and operations teams with project tracking and production preparation

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Participate in production meetings, scheduling reviews and team huddles
  • Provide clear project status updates to internal stakeholders
  • Communicate schedule changes, project risks and production impacts
  • Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, production, shipping, sales and operations teams
  • Help maintain alignment across departments throughout the project lifecycle
  • Escalate issues that could affect quality, cost, resources or delivery

Qualifications

  • Two to seven years of experience in project management, manufacturing coordination, engineering support, construction management or a related field
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, fabrication, construction or engineer-to-order environments
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing schedules, dashboards or workflows in Smartsheet or similar project management software
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple active projects and competing priorities
  • Experience tracking project timelines, materials and resource requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Smartsheet experience with formulas, automations, dashboards, reports and workflow design
  • Experience with resource management or capacity planning tools and processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings or manufacturing documentation
  • Experience with custom manufacturing, metal fabrication or industrial equipment
  • Exposure to power generation or power systems industries
  • Project management certification such as CAPM or PMP
  • Construction management or operations coordination experience
