Position Overview

The CNC Programmer / Manufacturing Engineer supports the business in areas of new product development, process improvement, daily production support and key program management. This role analyzes and interprets technical data, including engineering drawings, specifications and purchase orders, then creates shop routings, operation sheets, tools and related processes needed to produce high-quality precision machined components.

Typical processes include milling, lathe operation, honing, plating, CNC programming, assembly, testing, non-destructive testing, dimensional inspection, visual inspection and electro-mechanical assembly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan sequences of operations for machining and assembly based on customer order requirements
  • Ensure efficient and effective manufacturing methods are used and compatible with available machines
  • Specify, design and/or procure special tooling or equipment required to meet customer requirements within budgeted cost and time
  • Program CNC machines to effectively and efficiently produce desired products
  • Participate in the company’s Corrective Action and MRB Boards
  • Analyze and resolve machining and tooling issues to avoid production problems
  • Create new manufacturing drawings using CAD methodology
  • Modify existing manufacturing drawings using CAD methodology
  • Value engineer existing products and processes to reduce cost, lead time and cycle times
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Comply with all military and contractual requirements
  • Perform other duties as needed

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Basic understanding of typical manufacturing systems

  • Ability to support production while also contributing to longer-term process improvements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required
  • Equivalent experience may be considered
  • 7 or more years of manufacturing experience preferred
  • CNC programming experience required
  • Manufacturing engineering experience preferred
  • Experience supporting precision machined components preferred
  • Experience working with advanced manufacturing equipment and processes preferred

  • Comfortable supporting both new product development and daily production needs
  • Able to create or modify manufacturing drawings
  • Skilled at improving process flow, reducing cost and supporting quality outcomes

  • Strong enough technically to solve issues on the floor and strategic enough to support long-term manufacturing improvements

This role is responsible for developing manufacturing processes, supporting production implementation, improving operational efficiency, and driving industrialization efforts across complex aerospace programs.

Job Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineering & Industrialization

  • Develop, revise, and maintain manufacturing plans, operation breakdowns, and detailed work instructions
  • Support engineering changes, first-build activities, and production implementation efforts
  • Participate in Manufacturing Engineering Statements of Work (MESOW) development and execution
  • Define manufacturing and inspection processes aligned with technical, quality, cost, HSE, and schedule requirements
  • Prepare and manage manufacturing documentation packages including manufacturing, repair, and inspection instructions
  • Support site change boards and lead action plans to resolve production and manufacturing challenges

Process Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Design and optimize manufacturing layouts for machining, forming, welding, plastics processing, assembly, and material handling operations
  • Improve manufacturing processes, tooling, and production methods to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput
  • Investigate and resolve producibility and manufacturing-related issues
  • Participate in value analysis, FMEA activities, and continuous improvement initiatives

Tooling & Configuration Management

  • Review and approve engineering drawings for manufacturability and design compliance
  • Support tooling design validation and provide technical manufacturing input
  • Collaborate with tooling and quality teams to integrate inspection plans into applicable systems
  • Support prototype manufacturing activities and validation of tooling solutions

Costing, Planning & Data Management

  • Develop RC/NRC cost estimates and production schedules in response to RFQs
  • Conduct Make/Buy analyses to support manufacturing strategy decisions
  • Create and maintain MBOMs, process plans, and material master data within ERP and PLM systems
  • Monitor industrialization costs and support corrective actions to meet program targets
  • Ensure accurate management of technical data across enterprise systems

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership

  • Represent Manufacturing Engineering in cross-functional meetings with production leadership and internal stakeholders
  • Provide technical support to internal teams, suppliers, and external partners
  • Support new product introductions, industrialization activities, and innovation initiatives
  • Participate in production and activity transfers as required by industrialization plans

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of Manufacturing Engineering, Industrialization, or Production Engineering experience within the aerospace industry
  • Experience with metallic and composite assembly for large airframe structures
  • Strong experience with:
    • Time computation and labor estimation
    • Determinate Assembly (DA)
    • Assembly tooling and manufacturing methods
    • Aerospace manufacturing processes
    • Inspection planning and quality requirements
    • AS9100 standards and compliance
    • MBOM creation and management
  • Technical proficiency with:
    • CATIA
    • PLM systems (Teamcenter preferred)
    • ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and tolerancing principles
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience preferred

Position Summary

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will provide day-to-day production support while improving manufacturing workflows, ERP accuracy, labor efficiency, and operational execution. Job Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for fabrication, welding, paint, assembly, and final integration operations
  • Translate customer drawings, specifications, and engineered designs into effective manufacturing plans and routings
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials, labor standards, routings, and work instructions within Epicor ERP
  • Optimize manufacturing processes to improve throughput, reduce waste, and increase quality and on-time delivery
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement practical corrective actions that minimize downtime
  • Partner with Production leadership teams to improve scheduling readiness, material flow, and shop floor execution
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on labor efficiency, cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, and workflow optimization
  • Audit ERP data integrity related to jobs, methods, materials, production transactions, and costing
  • Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and custom orders from release through production
  • Collaborate with Industrial Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Design Engineering teams on operational initiatives
  • Assist with fixture design, tooling improvements, automation opportunities, and capital equipment projects
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote manufacturing best practices throughout the operation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 5 to 15 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in a production environment
  • Hands-on Epicor ERP experience strongly preferred, including routings, BOMs, job methods, costing, engineering changes, and production transactions
  • Experience in metal fabrication, welding, heavy equipment, power systems, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments highly preferred
  • Strong ability to read technical drawings, fabrication prints, and customer specifications
  • Experience creating SOPs, standard work instructions, routings, and scalable manufacturing documentation
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement tools
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively between engineering offices and production teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • CAD experience is a plus
