STS Technical Services is hiring a Pipefitter in West Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to support the fabrication and installation of plumbing and piping systems used in industrial heat-processing equipment.
This role is designed for an experienced pipefitting professional who can work from blueprints and burner schematics, fabricate and install piping systems, operate threading and welding equipment, and maintain strict quality and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
Position Overview
The Pipefitter is responsible for planning, laying out and installing gas, oil, air and water piping systems used in standard and complex industrial oven systems.
Working from drawings, blueprints, specifications and burner schematics, this position will select, measure, cut, thread, form and install piping components while coordinating with Engineering, Electrical and Production personnel throughout the build process.
Responsibilities
- Read and work from drawings, blueprints and burner schematics
- Lay out and install gas, oil, air and water plumbing and piping systems
- Determine piping layouts that support efficient installation and workmanship
- Support standard and complex industrial oven systems
- Select piping, fittings, valves, meters and gauges according to specifications
- Measure and cut piping
- Thread and form piping as required
- Install piping components according to production requirements
- Operate pipe-threading equipment
- Deburr threaded piping
- Apply thread-sealing compounds
- Operate welding equipment to weld piping and secure attachments
- Assist with testing completed units and subassemblies
- Schedule work and coordinate available labor and skills with production requirements
- Participate in piping and electrical layout activities
- Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area
- Communicate project status and irregular conditions with Engineering personnel
- Document project issues and maintain pertinent job information
- Attend technical classes or seminars as required to remain current within the trade
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Approximately five years of pipefitting experience in a manufacturing environment
- At least three years of pipefitting experience involving heat-processing equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Ability to read burner schematics
- Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Experience operating pipe-cutting and threading equipment
- Ability to accurately record and document project information
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong decision-making skills
- Ability to follow verbal, written and diagram-based instructions
- Ability to perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
Preferred Qualifications
- Pipefitting Journeyman status or equivalent experience
- Certified Welder status in TIG welding
- Certified Welder status in MIG welding
- Black iron welding experience
- Stainless steel welding experience
Travel Requirements
No travel is required for this position.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the production floor
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to support heavier material handling with team assistance or mechanical devices
- Manual dexterity required to position, thread, weld and assemble piping components
- Hand-eye coordination required when operating threading machines, welding equipment and cutting tools
- Ability to climb ladders
- Ability to access elevated work platforms
- Ability to work in confined spaces as required
- Visual ability to read schematics and accurately measure materials
- Ability to hear equipment sounds, alarms and verbal instructions
- Ability to work in varying hot and cold conditions

Work Environment
Work is performed primarily within an active manufacturing facility.
The position may involve exposure to noise, fumes, dust and changing temperatures while working around welding equipment, pipe-threading machines, forklifts and fabrication tools.
Employees are required to follow established safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements. Required personal protective equipment includes safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and steel-toe footwear.
Daily activities may include fabrication, installation, testing, troubleshooting and documentation depending on production schedules and operational priorities.
