STS Technical Services is hiring Aircraft Engine Mechanic Helpers in Oscoda, Michigan. This position supports an FAA-regulated engine repair shop and test cell operation performing maintenance, inspection, overhaul, and testing on Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan engines used on Boeing 727, Boeing 737, McDonnell Douglas DC-9, and McDonnell Douglas MD-88 aircraft.

This is an entry-level mechanical position designed for individuals with prior hands-on mechanical experience who want to build a career in the aviation engine industry.

Position Summary

The Mechanic Helper assists licensed and experienced engine mechanics with engine overhaul, maintenance, and test cell preparation activities. Work is performed under the direct supervision of Leads, Maintenance Control, or Operations leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed mechanics with disassembly, cleaning, inspection preparation, and reassembly of engine components
  • Retrieve, organize, and stage tools, hardware, and parts required for assigned tasks
  • Support mechanics during engine build-up and preparation for test cell operations
  • Clean and prepare engine parts using approved methods and equipment
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks under supervision in accordance with approved manuals and company procedures
  • Identify damaged, worn, or defective parts and report concerns to supervising mechanics
  • Follow all safety procedures and participate in company safety programs
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for tools and company property
  • Complete required safety and security-related training applicable to engine shop operations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Leads or Senior Management

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous mechanical experience required, including automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, industrial, small engine, military, or related fields preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn aviation engine systems
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work under direct supervision
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Basic computer proficiency; familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to pass FAA-required drug and alcohol testing and background checks
  • Personal tools are a plus but not required

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, handling parts and tools, lifting 10 to 25 lbs
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels, including test cell and rotor shop areas
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment on airport and off-airport property

You will support engine overhaul work, perform hands on repairs, and help ensure powerplants are returned to service safely and efficiently.

Position Summary – Mechanic

Mechanics support engine overhaul and maintenance activities under the direction of Leads, Maintenance Control, or Operations leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overhaul, maintenance, and repair of powerplants and associated components in accordance with approved manuals, manufacturer documentation, bulletins, and orders
  • Maintain constant awareness for defective, worn, or failed parts, as well as unsafe working conditions
  • Perform housekeeping duties including maintaining a clean work area and care of company property
  • Actively participate in safety programmes, report safety concerns promptly, and ensure all tasks are performed in compliance with OSHA and applicable safety standards
  • Perform tasks as assigned by Leads or Senior Management
  • Complete all required training including security related training if assigned to engine shop work

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to respond quickly in time sensitive situations
  • Ability to remain calm in adverse or high pressure conditions
  • Basic computer proficiency; familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s licence; passport may be required for certain travel assignments
  • Ability to pass all FAA required drug and alcohol testing and background checks
  • Must supply minimum required tools as listed by the department
