Role Purpose

The Base Maintenance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of engine maintenance operations, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with regulatory requirements, company procedures, manufacturer guidance, and industry best practice.

This role leads operational teams, oversees labour and capacity planning, supports customer commitments, and drives continuous improvement across workshop performance, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all certifying staff meet recency and training requirements to maintain engine-type approvals
  • Confirm all team members are appropriately trained to maintain engine types listed within Company Approval Certificates
  • Develop and manage individual development plans for all team members
  • Monitor performance, attendance, and timekeeping in line with company policies, working closely with HR where required
  • Ensure teams have access to current, approved maintenance data
  • Oversee tooling serviceability, coordinating with relevant departments to maintain availability and compliance
  • Ensure all engine maintenance is completed in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
  • Allocate labour and equipment to meet committed turnaround times
  • Support Customer Services with communication regarding turnaround time risks or changes
  • Liaise with Planning to manage short-term capacity and ensure customer commitments are achievable
  • Prepare and maintain operational reports including labour utilisation, bay utilisation, and project efficiency
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve cost, quality, and turnaround performance
  • Set and maintain standards across workshop areas including housekeeping, conduct, and discipline
  • Ensure full adherence to Part 145 regulatory requirements
  • Work with Safety and Compliance teams to address audit findings and corrective actions
  • Respond to reports raised through the company Safety Management System
  • Promote and embed a Just Culture across operational teams
  • Enforce health and safety standards throughout all workshop areas
  • Develop, review, and maintain operational processes and associated training guides
  • Participate in customer meetings as required
  • Participate in cross-departmental meetings to support overall business performance

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of three years management experience within the aviation industry or an associated MRO
  • Minimum of three years direct aircraft engine maintenance experience, preferably as a licensed engineer or approved certifier
  • Strong working knowledge of Part 145 regulations
  • Solid understanding of Safety Management Systems
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements within a workshop environment
  • Proven experience leading and developing operational teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously

STS Engine Services is hiring a Workshop and Facilities Assistant to join our team in Stansted, Essex. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced jet engine maintenance environment supporting global aviation operations. The role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Job Purpose

To support the daily operations of a busy jet engine workshop through hands-on, physical tasks including engine handling, site upkeep, and waste disposal. This role requires a proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to multitask across workshop, logistics, and cleaning duties to maintain a safe, efficient, and compliant working environment.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in the day-to-day workshop activities and general site activities as directed by the Workshop Management.
  • Assist in the movement of aircraft engines, engine parts and engine tooling as required.
  • Assist in the unloading and loading of engines plus moving engines around the site as required.
  • Assist in the close up and dispatch of engines as directed by the Workshop Manager.
  • Assist in the control and disposal of waste products in line with company and environmental regulations.
  • Keep a clean and tidy working environment in the workshop while optimising space utilisation.
  • Perform some site cleaning tasks when required ensuring work and storage areas are clean and well maintained at all times.
  • Ensure the best level of service is offered and maintained for both internal and external customers.
  • General upkeep of all company vehicles and equipment.
  • Driving of company vehicles (ie: company forklifts, towing equipment and road vehicles).
  • Assist the stores department during peak times or to cover holidays and/or sickness (training will be given).
  • Any other reasonable duties as instructed by the senior management team.

Skills & Experience:

  • Computer literate (where needed training will be given on the company computer system).
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Must be flexible and willing to move between all work areas within STS Engine Services as required.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Previous experience of working in a busy workshop environment is desirable, aviation experience a big plus.
  • Must be able to identify problems, undertake corrective actions, or propose alternative solutions.
  • Full UK Driving License is essential.
  • Forklift License is an advantage (where needed training will be given).

Your Role & Responsibilities

  • Perform engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul tasks within the workshop in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support the efficient turnaround of engine shop inputs, ensuring customer expectations and company objectives are met
  • Follow approved technical documentation (ESM, CMM, SRM, IPC) to carry out all maintenance tasks to the highest standard
  • Assist with near-wing and on-wing field support, as required
  • Adhere to company Health & Safety policies, fostering a safe and compliant work environment
  • Maintain accuracy and efficiency in all tasks to reduce turnaround times while upholding quality
  • Identify technical issues, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions
  • Work collaboratively with team leaders, workshop managers, and cross-functional teams to meet operational goals

Skills & Experience Required

  • Time-served aerospace industry apprenticeship with a minimum of two years’ post-apprenticeship experience
  • Previous company approval on at least one of the engine types listed above
  • Hands-on experience in a busy engine shop, working on engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul
  • Familiarity with engine shop manuals and regulatory standards, including relevant ATA chapters
  • Understanding of Part 145 and FAA regulations
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Borescope inspection experience is desirable
  • Current Human Factors training, EWIS Level 1 & 2, and Fuel Tank Safety Level 1 & 2 preferred (training can be provided)
  • Forklift license is desirable (training can be arranged)
