STS Technical Services is hiring a Mechanical Engineer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to support the design and development of heat processing and process cleaning equipment.

This role is ideal for an engineer with three to five years of mechanical or structural design experience who can work with 3D CAD tools, develop detailed drawings, support structural analysis and help validate systems through testing.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer applies mechanical and structural engineering principles to the design and development of heat processing and process cleaning equipment.

The position supports routine and intermediate engineering assignments while continuing to develop more advanced applied engineering skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare final drawings from engineering sketches, specifications and supporting documentation
  • Develop layouts for systems, components and parts
  • Create multiple drawing views showing component relationships
  • Identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances and materials
  • Serve as the mechanical technical lead on assigned intermediate projects
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to complete engineering tasks
  • Occasionally oversee work assigned to Mechanical Engineers and Designers
  • Plan and organize structural analysis activities
  • Support compliance with structural integrity and stability requirements
  • Develop and document structural requirements used to establish system designs
  • Develop test plans and test configurations
  • Support test execution
  • Analyze and report test results
  • Verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Organize test programs used to demonstrate compliance to customers and regulatory agencies
  • Modify existing drawings based on design changes
  • Update systems, components, parts and identification details as required
  • Use 3D CAD tools including Inventor
  • Review sales contracts and identify critical project criteria
  • Support project completion within established budgets
  • Maintain accurate and organized engineering records and documentation
  • Support decision-making and problem-solving throughout assigned projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Three to five years of related experience in a mechanical or structural design environment
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor or similar platforms
  • Fundamental understanding of 2D CAD tools such as AutoCAD
  • Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics
  • Fundamental understanding of fluid flow
  • Understanding of NFPA requirements
  • Understanding of NEC requirements
  • Understanding of UL requirements
  • Understanding of CE requirements
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements
  • Ability to accurately record and document engineering information
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with general office software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or MRP/ERP systems
  • Ability to follow verbal, written and diagram-based instructions
  • Basic mathematical skills involving whole numbers, fractions and decimals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with engineered-to-order equipment
  • Experience with machine design production environments
  • FEA experience
  • CFD experience

This position is ideal for an engineer with hands-on PLC programming experience, strong systems integration knowledge and the ability to develop electrical schematics, control architectures and sequence-of-operations documentation.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer II applies electrical engineering principles to the design of heat processing equipment.

Typical areas of responsibility include PLC process programming, operator interfaces, network communications, instrumentation, power distribution and electrical controls. The position performs routine and intermediate engineering assignments while continuing to develop more advanced applied engineering skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement electrical control systems using PLCs, relays, contactors and related devices
  • Work with RTDs, transmitters, switches and other instrumentation
  • Develop electrical schematic drawings and bills of materials
  • Design PLC architectures for heat processing and process cleaning equipment
  • Develop and program PLC software
  • Write sequence-of-operations documentation
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to complete engineering assignments
  • Serve as the electrical technical lead on assigned projects
  • Review sales contracts and identify critical project requirements
  • Support project completion within established budgets
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding approvals, required information and contract progress
  • Monitor compliance with customer requirements
  • Maintain compliance with applicable National, NFPA and UL codes
  • Follow established standards, policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate and organized engineering records and documentation
  • Support teamwork, customer communication, decision-making and problem-solving throughout assigned projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Two to four years of related experience in an Electrical Engineering or PLC environment
  • Experience with heat processing equipment or related equipment design
  • At least two years of PLC programming experience
  • Experience with PLC architecture design and software programming
  • Familiarity with systems integration
  • Experience working with PLCs and HMIs
  • Knowledge of instrumentation
  • Knowledge of networking and communications
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD tools
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Familiarity with gas trains and associated codes
  • Understanding of NFPA requirements
  • Understanding of NEC requirements
  • Understanding of UL requirements
  • Understanding of CE requirements
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements
  • Ability to accurately record and document technical information

STS Technical Services is hiring an Application Engineer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to support estimating, quoting and technical solution development for thermal processing and process cleaning equipment.

This role is designed for an experienced engineering professional who can interpret customer specifications, develop complex technical proposals and create practical equipment concepts using 2D and 3D CAD tools.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Application Engineer III plans, directs and coordinates estimating and quoting activities for thermal processing and process cleaning equipment.

This position uses advanced knowledge of equipment, systems and applications to define technical approaches, develop customized solutions and support complex customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare quotations based on customer specifications
  • Ensure proposed equipment concepts meet customer requirements
  • Identify and document exceptions to customer specifications when necessary
  • Create conceptual sales drawings using 2D and 3D CAD tools
  • Use AutoCAD, Inventor and related design software to support equipment concepts
  • Develop customized solutions for budgetary proposals
  • Prepare process designs
  • Develop General Arrangement drawings
  • Prepare final bid proposals for sales presentations
  • Lead technical discussions with customers and sales personnel
  • Gather additional technical information needed to develop appropriate solutions
  • Support Sales personnel in identifying customer needs and product requirements
  • Structure assigned work effectively while supporting teamwork, communication and problem-solving
  • Maintain accurate and legible records and documentation
  • Coordinate with Project Engineering, Manufacturing and Purchasing
  • Provide ongoing feedback related to project and product decisions based on customer requirements
  • Follow established standards, policies and procedures
  • Provide status updates on RFQ progress
  • Support quotation and proposal schedules
  • Travel on a short-term basis when required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or equivalent
  • Five to 10 years of related experience in a design engineering environment
  • Experience with electrical controls, thermal processing equipment or related estimating activities
  • Background in industrial electrical control systems
  • Knowledge of PLC and HMI systems
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD tools
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics
  • Fundamental understanding of fluid flow
  • Experience preparing bids and proposals
  • Ability to read and understand technical bid and proposal specifications
  • Ability to understand commercial requirements related to contractual terms and conditions
  • Ability to learn, understand and communicate complex technical information
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
