Aircraft Structures Technicians

STS Technical Services is hiring Aircraft Structures Technicians in Nashville, Tennessee. In this role, you’ll perform structural repairs and fabrication of aircraft parts, ensuring compliance with FAA standards and delivering safe, airworthy results.

Position Summary

Perform structural repairs and fabrication of parts with the ability to follow SRM instructions and/or engineering dispositions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow approved repair and modification procedures for components or aircraft, consulting FAA-approved procedures, OEM technical data, and work package instructions
  • Position and align subassemblies in jigs or fixtures using measuring instruments, blueprint lines, and index points
  • Inspect completed work to identify any needed rework before sign off; ensure all repairs meet prescribed standards and tolerances
  • Perform serviceability tests on repairs using test equipment outlined in technical manuals
  • Complete work package documentation by signing/stamping off after finishing all designated operations
  • Submit completed work to Quality Assurance for final inspection and re-certification of airworthiness
  • Fasten, support, or hang components and subassemblies using bolts, screws, or rivets
  • Cut, trim, and file parts; verify fitting tolerances before installation
  • Drill holes in structures and subassemblies; attach brackets, hinges, or clips to secure installation
  • Inspect and test installed units, parts, and equipment for compliance with performance and safety standards
  • Install units, parts, and components in structural assembly using hand and power tools
  • Locate and mark reference points for installation of parts using jigs, templates, and measuring instruments
  • Provide information and documentation for engineering requests
  • Comply with repair station procedures (RSM/QCM) and company policies (SOP) during all maintenance work

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • A&P and/or structures experience preferred
  • Repairman’s certificate may substitute for A&P

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience preferred
  • Proven aircraft structures repair experience with the ability to use technical data and aircraft drawings to accomplish repairs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to fabricate parts and read work orders, blueprints, and specifications
  • Proficiency in the usage of air-powered hand tools and related equipment
  • Knowledge of machines, tools, raw materials, production processes, and quality control methods
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts as required
  • Strong understanding of FAA maintenance procedures and compliance requirements

Working Conditions / Special Requirements

  • Must adhere to OSHA, EPA, State, and Federal regulations at all times
  • Must be able to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 with no restrictions
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts
  • Subject to FAA-mandated random drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to obtain a SIDA badge may be a requirement for this position
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions
  • Physical requirements include:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Work above head level
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Climb as needed

Job Description:

Performs avionics and electrical systems maintenance according to FCC, FAA and Company Policies and Regulations. Troubleshoots, tests, repairs and installs avionics components such as aircraft communication, navigation, radar and electronic instrument systems. Operates and maintains test equipment and trade associated tools.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine or special maintenance inspections to prevent failure of aircraft electrical and avionic systems and components; performs complete operational and functional checks on navigation, communication and flight control systems, including instrumentation and pilot static installations, etc.
  • Fabricates wiring harnesses, installs/modifies avionic and electrical systems.
  • Determines when a component should be repaired or replaced; decides upon necessary repair scheme and quantity and type of parts needed to accomplish proper repair; secures same from Stores or departmental supplies.
  • Follows approved maintenance procedures for subject component or system, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM’s) technical data, and work package instructions.
  • Inspects completed work before sign off to identify any needed rework and performs rework; ensures that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances.
  • Performs serviceability tests on repaired components/systems using test equipment specified by the original equipment manufacturer.
  • Completes work package documentation by signing/stamping off after finishing all designated operations.
  • Performs installation of digital avionic equipment.
  • Interprets avionic/electrical wiring diagrams, wire identification, harness fabrication, wiring and cable integrity, coax cables and fittings and connector assemblies.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces malfunctioning components or assemblies, using hand tools and soldering iron.
  • Installs electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft, using hand tools, power tools, and soldering iron.
  • Interprets flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems.
  • Sets up and operates ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight test of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Tests components or assemblies, using circuit tester, oscilloscope, and voltmeter.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, reworks, and modifies worn or defective assemblies, components or systems.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School/ GED

Experience:

  • 2 years actual and recent depot level aircraft avionics experience is required, (repair of electrical systems, flight control systems, instrumentation and wiring); proficiency with: interpretation of avionic/electrical wiring diagrams, wire identification, harness fabrication, cables, fittings, circuits and connectors
  • Desired:Prior experience in executive jet repair facility.

Job Description:

Examines, repairs, assembles, and tests aircraft accessories, such as engines, power brake units, auxiliary electric motors, carburetors, spark igniters, valves, pumps, fuselage, wings, and oil and fuel tanks, using hand tools and testing devices, and following shop orders and manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Repairs, reworks, and modifies worn or defective assemblies, making alterations or changes to units when necessary.
  • Follows approved maintenance procedures for subject component or system, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM’s) technical data, and work package instructions.
  • Consults the Maintenance Lead if technical assistance is needed during the repair process.
  • Inspects completed work before sign off to identify any needed rework; performs rework; ensures that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances.
  • Performs serviceability tests on repaired components/systems using test equipment specified by the original equipment manufacturer.
  • Completes work package documentation by signing/stamping after finishing all designated operations.
  • Submits completed/in-progress work to Maintenance Lead for review; submits to Quality Assurance for final/in-progress inspection and re-certification of airworthiness.
  • Provides supervisor with performance statistics and other operational data, as requested.
  • Properly accounts for time and materials used in all inspection and maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School/ GED
  • A&P

Experience:

  • Required: A & P License; minimum 2 to 5 years’ experience with small aircraft/ general aviation trained in one aircraft type; proficient and demonstrated skill with the aircraft.
  • Several years or actual and recent depot level aircraft maintenance and repair experience is required, (repair of mechanical systems, components, hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, rigging etc.); proficiency with interpretation of original equipment manufacturer’s technical data or work package instructions; experience using power or pneumatic hand tools.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Assignments require Standard Knowledge of a Technical Area.
  • Rapid learning and application of new information and concepts within the Technical Area begins to take place at this level.
  • Performs moderately complex Technical Assignments.
  • Assists Advanced Level Technicians on more complex technical assignments.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repairs and maintenance.

Technical Illustrator

STS Technical Services is hiring an Accessory Technician in Nashville, Tennessee, to support the testing, troubleshooting, repair and overhaul of aircraft components and accessories.

This position performs advanced electrical, hydraulic, avionic and electromechanical maintenance in accordance with FAA, FCC, OEM and company requirements. The Accessory Technician will work with navigation, radar, communication, instrumentation, hydraulic and landing gear systems while maintaining high standards for safety, quality and efficiency.

Position Overview

The Accessory Technician performs component maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repair and overhaul work using approved procedures, technical documentation and test equipment.

The role includes hands-on work with avionics components and LRUs, electrical systems, wiring, circuit boards, wheels, brakes, landing gear and related aircraft accessories.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul aircraft components and accessories in accordance with FAA and OEM procedures
  • Ensure completed work meets prescribed standards and tolerances
  • Perform diagnostic, repair and overhaul tasks using approved procedures
  • Assist technicians and specialists with technically complex repairs
  • Follow applicable manual references and use the proper tools for each repair
  • Perform work involving wheels, landing gear and brake repairs
  • Follow established production schedules
  • Work with the Shop Lead and Production Maintenance Supervisor to address schedule delays
  • Follow work orders and repair orders
  • Ensure required documentation is completed accurately
  • Assist with maintenance records and technical data required by the FAA
  • Monitor and track parts shortages
  • Support material ordering to address parts shortages
  • Provide repair information to the Lead or Production Maintenance Supervisor for quotations
  • Create purchase requisitions for required parts and tooling
  • Communicate tooling requirements to the Lead or Production Maintenance Supervisor
  • Communicate by email, telephone and in person as required
  • Work with the Lead to coordinate third-party vendor tasks and services

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least two years of aircraft avionics maintenance experience
  • FAA A&P certification preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting avionics components and LRUs
  • Experience bench testing avionics components
  • Experience with communication, navigation and transponder systems preferred
  • Experience using avionics test benches or automated test equipment
  • Experience performing functional testing after repair or overhaul

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to troubleshoot avionics systems
  • Ability to diagnose faults using test equipment and established troubleshooting procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and electronic schematics
  • Soldering and circuit board repair skills
  • Wire harness inspection and repair experience
  • Connector pin replacement experience
  • Electrical continuity and insulation testing experience
  • Experience using multimeters

  • Familiarity with CMM and repair station documentation
