Sheet Metal Technician

The Sheet Metal Technician is responsible for performing structural repairs, modifications, inspections, and fabrication work on rotary-wing aircraft in accordance with FAA regulations, company maintenance programs, OEM maintenance manuals, and established quality standards. This position supports mission-critical offshore aviation operations and requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform structural repairs, modifications, inspections, and sheet metal fabrication on rotary-wing aircraft.

  • Accomplish all assigned work in accordance with company policies, procedures, maintenance manuals, manufacturer specifications, and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.

  • Read and interpret aircraft drawings, blueprints, schematics, engineering orders, structural repair manuals, and technical publications.

  • Properly document, sign, and assume responsibility for all work performed as outlined in company procedures and the Repair Station Manual (RSM).

  • Maintain a personal set of standard and metric aircraft-quality hand tools appropriate for assigned duties.

  • Properly and efficiently utilize company-provided tools, equipment, materials, and parts.

  • Communicate detailed status updates and work progression during shift turnovers to ensure continuity of maintenance activities.

  • Remain current on maintenance manual revisions, company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain awareness of unsafe conditions and immediately report hazards or safety concerns that could affect personnel, equipment, or aircraft.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including proper care of personal and company equipment.

  • Notify the Shop Lead or designated supervisor of aircraft discrepancies, project delays, recordkeeping issues, or maintenance emergencies.

  • Support aircraft return-to-service activities through adherence to quality, safety, and compliance standards.

  • Travel domestically and internationally as required to support maintenance operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand aircraft drawings, blueprints, schematics, structural repair manuals, and technical data.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of aircraft sheet metal or structural repair experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of aircraft structural repair techniques, fabrication methods, and corrosion control practices.

  • Self-motivated and capable of maintaining an efficient work pace with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Flexibility to work overtime, varying schedules, and travel assignments as required.

  • Willingness to relocate to Lake Charles, Louisiana.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport and any required visas for international travel.

STS Technical Services is hiring experienced Aircraft Structures Technicians to join a respected aviation team in Moline, Illinois. This is a hands-on position focused on inspecting, servicing, repairing, and modifying aircraft airframes, structural systems, and composite components.

Position Summary:

As an Aircraft Structures Technician, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity of aircraft. You will support repair and modification projects, read and interpret aircraft blueprints, and ensure all work complies with FAA regulations and company quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural repairs and modifications on aircraft and components
  • Interpret technical drawings and blueprints for structural work
  • Take full ownership of assigned structural projects and deliver quality results
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Control Manual and FAA regulations
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all work performed
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and in compliance with safety regulations
  • Safeguard customer aircraft, components, and parts at all times
  • Comply with all Federal, OSHA, state, and local safety and environmental regulations
  • Perform additional duties as required

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Airframe & Powerplant Certificate preferred (Airframe-only also accepted)
  • 3–5 years of aircraft maintenance experience with a focus on structural repair and modification
  • King Air and/or Citation aircraft experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with flight control surface repairs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance (AOA badge)
  • Strong working knowledge of FARs 43, 65, 91, 135, and 145
