Position Summary

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement sustainable process improvements to increase throughput and improve on-time delivery

  • Create and maintain SOPs, standard work documentation, and operational best practices

  • Mentor junior engineers and support the development of a continuous improvement culture throughout the facility

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5 to 15 years of Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience in a production environment
  • Strong background in metal fabrication, welding, heavy manufacturing, job shop, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments preferred
  • Proven success implementing Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience with labor studies, line balancing, plant layout development, capacity planning, and KPI management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn operational data into measurable improvements
  • Comfortable leading projects and influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • ERP and MRP system experience required
  • CAD experience preferred
  • Six Sigma certification or equivalent continuous improvement training is a plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 5 to 15 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in a production environment
  • Hands-on Epicor ERP experience strongly preferred, including routings, BOMs, job methods, costing, engineering changes, and production transactions
  • Experience in metal fabrication, welding, heavy equipment, power systems, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments highly preferred
  • Strong ability to read technical drawings, fabrication prints, and customer specifications

STS Technical Services is hiring a Regional Field Service Technician to support customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

This is a remote, customer-facing position requiring candidates to reside in Virginia and travel up to 80 to 90 percent of the year. The Regional Field Service Technician will inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment while providing responsive technical support at customer locations.

Position Overview

The Regional Field Service Technician supports equipment service, repair and preventive maintenance throughout an assigned East Coast territory.

This role requires electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, the ability to read schematics and mechanical prints, and the confidence to work independently in a fast-paced field environment. The technician will also train customers, maintain service records and communicate regularly with Dispatch regarding assignments and job status.

Job Details

  • Reports To: Field Services Director

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment using established tools and service procedures
  • Perform scheduled equipment inspections to help prevent future failures
  • Complete load banking and analyze voltage requirements
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Read and interpret mechanical prints
  • Complete repairs and maintenance efficiently and according to standard procedures
  • Train customers on the proper use of equipment
  • Educate customers on available products and services
  • Communicate with Dispatch throughout the day regarding job status and upcoming assignments
  • Maintain assigned equipment and inventory
  • Keep accurate records of services performed
  • Document mileage, expenses and billable hours
  • Follow all applicable safety requirements and regulations
  • Travel frequently to customer locations throughout the assigned territory
  • Share field resources, including working with another technician in company work vehicles

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in electrical work, equipment repair or installation preferred
  • Strong electrical aptitude
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to identify the causes of equipment errors
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment problems
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical prints
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to make decisions with limited guidance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field service environment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • REAL ID required for domestic air travel
  • Ability to pass initial and random drug screenings
  • Must reside in Virginia

Travel and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 80 to 90 percent of the year
  • Ability to use different methods of transportation based on assignment needs
  • Ability to frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable sharing work vehicles and other field resources

As a Field Service Technician, you will work independently in a fast-paced environment, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and performing essential maintenance on generators, engines, and related equipment. This role requires up to 75% travel within the assigned area, offering a unique opportunity for hands-on work and customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment, including load banking and analyzing voltage requirements, in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Customer Training & Support: Educate customers on the use of equipment and explain the benefits of services provided.
  • Communication with Dispatch: Keep Dispatch updated throughout the day on service progress and next assignments.

Qualifications

  • Driver’s License: Must maintain a valid driver’s license to travel to customer locations.
