Position Summary:

Performs structural repairs and fabrication of parts.  Ability to perform repairs per aircraft SRM and/or engineering dispositions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Follows approved repair/modification procedures for component or aircraft, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) technical data, and work package instructions.
  • Positions and aligns subassemblies in jigs or fixtures, using measuring instruments, following blueprint lines and index points
  • Inspects completed work to identify any needed rework before signing off; ensures that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances.
  • Performs serviceability tests on repairs using test equipment specified in technical manuals.
  • Completes work package documentation by signing/stamping off after finishing all designated operations.
  • Submits completed work to Quality Assurance for final/in progress inspection and recertification of airworthiness.
  • Bolts, screws, or rivets accessories to fasten, support, or hang components and subassemblies.
  • Cuts, trims, and files parts, and verifies fitting tolerances to prepare for installation.
  • Drills holes in structure and subassemblies, and attaches brackets, hinges, or clips to secure installation or to fasten subassemblies.
  • Inspects and tests installed units, parts, and equipment for fit, performance, and compliance with standards, using measuring instruments and test equipment.
  • Positions and aligns subassemblies in jigs or fixtures, using measuring instruments, following blueprint lines and index points.
  • Able to identify bolts, screws, rivets and various fasteners used to support or assemble components.
  • Installs units, parts, equipment, and components in structural assembly, according to blueprints and specifications, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Locates and marks reference points and holes for installation of parts and components, using jigs, templates, and measuring instruments.
  • Provide information and documentation for engineering requests.
  • Comply with repair station procedures (RSM /QCM) and company policies (SOP) when performing aircraft or component maintenance.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School/ GED
  • A&P license preferred

Experience:

  • Prefer at least 5 years experience.
  • Experience doing aircraft structures as well as able to use all tech data and aircraft drawings to locate part numbers and accomplish repairs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to fabricate parts.
  • Reads work orders, blueprints, and specifications or examines sample or damaged part or structure to determine repair or fabrication procedures and sequence of operations.
  • Repair body or structure of aircraft according to specifications.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Be proficient in the usage of air powered hand tools and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Ability to work different shifts and flexible hours if required.
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.

STS Technical Services is hiring an AOG Travel Mechanic in Miami, Florida.

This role supports aircraft maintenance at base and remote locations, with regular travel required for AOG recovery and special projects. Candidates must be local to Chicago, Illinois, Miami, Florida or Cincinnati, Ohio, or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance may be provided.

This is a hands-on aircraft maintenance role built for an experienced mechanic who can troubleshoot, inspect, repair, coordinate and move quickly when aircraft need support. AOG work is not slow work. It takes judgment, technical depth, clear communication and the ability to make good decisions when the clock is not your friend.

Position Summary

The AOG Travel Mechanic inspects, modifies and repairs aircraft at the maintenance base and remote locations. This role troubleshoots technical discrepancies, executes repairs on company aircraft and provides guidance to entry-level mechanics and on-site contract mechanics on basic tasks and troubleshooting.

The successful candidate will be proficient in the use of electronic test equipment, voltage and amperage measuring devices, recording equipment and troubleshooting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot technical discrepancies and execute repair of company aircraft.
  • Accomplish aircraft inspections per company procedures.
  • Use electronic test equipment, voltage or amperage measuring devices, recording devices and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics and technical orders.
  • Inspect and assist in maintenance of company equipment and tooling.
  • Work as a member of a team that interfaces with contract maintenance personnel.
  • Follow safety measures, good shop practices and cleanliness standards.
  • Communicate discrepancies found during inspections to the Maintenance Control department and follow directions to troubleshoot and repair faulty conditions.
  • Ensure all aircraft documentation is completed accurately per company and FAA procedures prior to aircraft departure.
  • Provide guidance to mechanics on advanced tasks.
  • Organize daily tasks and coordinate inspections and repair of aircraft.
  • Coordinate materials and tooling requirements for projected work across the entire shift.
  • Perform manual and aircraft parts inventories as required.
  • Assist other company departments to support on-time aircraft departures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7+ years of transport category aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Boeing series aircraft experience preferred, including 737, 777, 747-400 and 747-800 Gen Fam with RII authorization.
  • Unrestricted engine run qualifications on 737, 777 and 747 aircraft.
  • Formal training on advanced systems and avionics on 737, 777 and 747 aircraft.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel regularly for AOG recovery and special projects.
  • Borescope qualified on CFM, Pratt Whitney or GE-90 engines.
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform close-tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures (doublers, triplers, seat tracks, stringers, etc.)
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, blueprints, schematics, and OEM specifications
  • Conduct sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving of structural components
  • Work with aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and other non-porous metals
  • Use professional hand tools and specialty tools including 45- and 90-degree drills, rivet guns, countersink cages, pancake adapters, and more
  • Guide and mentor junior technicians and collaborate on complex modification efforts
  • Operate forklifts, cranes, and powered elevating equipment
  • Use computer systems to access documentation, submit part requests, and complete maintenance records
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Perform quality inspections and make entries in aircraft logs and records as needed
  • Maintain flexibility in shift scheduling, including potential nights, weekends, and holidays

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of heavy aircraft structures experience (transport-category aircraft)
  • Experience with non-porous metals: aluminum, titanium, stainless steel
  • Demonstrated ability with close-tolerance structural repairs and tooling
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering documents, and technical manuals
  • Familiarity with shop math and general aviation maintenance practices
  • Proficient in basic computer applications and aircraft-related software systems
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under physically demanding conditions
  • Must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain customer approval for aircraft access
  • Dual citizenship or prior foreign citizenship may preclude access

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on VIP or specialty aircraft interiors within the past 10 years
  • Prior experience supporting military aircraft, special mission platforms, or government contracts
  • Knowledge of structural systems on wide-body aircraft or presidential support aircraft

  • Follows approved maintenance procedures for subject component or system, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM’s) technical data, and work package instructions.
  • Consults the Maintenance Lead if technical assistance is needed during the repair process.
  • Inspects completed work before sign off to identify any needed rework; performs rework; ensures that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances.
  • Performs serviceability tests on repaired components/systems using test equipment specified by the original equipment manufacturer.
  • Completes work package documentation by signing/stamping after finishing all designated operations.
  • Submits completed/in-progress work to Maintenance Lead for review; submits to Quality Assurance for final/in-progress inspection and re-certification of airworthiness.
  • Provides supervisor with performance statistics and other operational data, as requested.
  • Properly accounts for time and materials used in all inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Comply with repair station procedures (RSM /QCM) and company policies (SOP) when performing aircraft or component maintenance.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School/ GED
  • A or P License preferred

Experience:

  • Journeyman Technician Role requiring Intermediate Skills to perform most of the standard tasks within the technical area assigned to.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in at least one aircraft type. Proficiency should be demonstrated in at least one aircraft discipline through prior work experience to include:
  • General Maintenance
  • Structures
  • Interiors
  • Avionics Systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Assignments require Standard Knowledge of a Technical Area.
  • Rapid learning and application of new information and concepts within the Technical Area begins to take place at this level.
  • Performs moderately complex Technical Assignments.
  • Assists Advanced Level Technicians on more complex technical assignments
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repairs and maintenance
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
  • Skilled with repairing, troubleshooting, installing and equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of FAA requirements for aircraft maintenance procedures
  • Ability to interpret and comprehend manufacturer and FAA approved work package instructions; ability to inspect and install parts/components.

  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts if required
  • Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
  • As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 “Respirator Protection” regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
  • Tools must satisfy minimum tool list.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work in hot/Cold – Indoor/Outdoor.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Must be able to do work above head.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.

Aircraft Type Ratings

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, repair and overhaul of customer aircraft to include all forms of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and certification of maintenance within the scope of company approvals.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of aircraft mechanics and support staff, leading the standards of maintenance execution by example.
  • Ensure aircraft maintenance activity is performed in a timely and efficient manner to the customer’s full satisfaction for on-time performance and technical dispatch reliability.

Skills and Experience

  • Part 66 CAA Licence, B2.
  • Current CAA Type Certification on the Boeing 737 MAX or Airbus A320.
  • Previous base maintenance experience.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic environment and be flexible to meet changing working requirements.
