Position Summary

The Heavy Check Inspector performs assigned inspection functions in accordance with the Company General Procedures Manual (GPM) and other company manuals to ensure aircraft are airworthy and serviceable. This role requires significant travel (up to 75%), flexibility to work multiple shifts, and the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic maintenance environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee inspection functions to confirm aircraft airworthiness and serviceability
  • Inspect job progress, procedures, and maintenance documentation for compliance with approved methods, data, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Audit completed maintenance records to ensure compliance with FARs and company policies; enter records into the PMI system
  • Ensure contracted maintenance vendors forward original aircraft documents to the Centralized Records Department on time
  • Perform receiving inspections of materials/equipment to confirm proper documentation and certification
  • Review and approve major and minor repair orders for use on company aircraft
  • Monitor station work orders to confirm timely completion of scheduled maintenance
  • Track inventory levels and station parts pending reports
  • Oversee station tool life and shelf-life programs
  • Conduct company-required and recurrent training for contracted maintenance personnel
  • Ensure proper completion of scheduled and deferred maintenance tasks in the PMI system
  • Track and manage life-limited parts replaced during heavy check maintenance
  • Conduct audits of contracted maintenance vendors to confirm compliance with company policies and GPM requirements
  • Enforce work interruption and shift turnover procedures for each aircraft
  • Ensure contracted personnel use the most current revision of technical data during maintenance activities
  • Oversee proper tagging of aircraft components
  • Ensure compliance with the company Read and Initial program for employees and contractors
  • Monitor compliance with FAA Service Difficulty Reporting (SDR) procedures
  • Perform in-process inspections of contracted maintenance personnel
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Manager of Quality Control

Job Requirements

  • FAA Mechanic’s Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings (must have held for at least 3 years)
  • Meets requirements of 14 CFR Part 65.83
  • At least 3 years of maintenance/inspection experience on large aircraft (10+ passenger seats) with an air carrier or certified repair station
  • Ability to work varied shifts and adapt to changing schedules
  • Ability to travel up to 75% (domestic and international)
  • Must successfully pass an initial drug screening and be subject to FAA-mandated random drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to lift, stand, and bend for long periods of time
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered

  • Responsible for the proper performance of assignments and the prudent handling of product, tools and equipment
  • Interpret standard work instructions, charts, tables, blueprints, wire diagrams, formulas, sketches, verbal and electronic orders, job layouts etc. to accomplish assigned work
  • Ensure that all equipment is used in accordance with established safety and operating procedures
  • Familiar with precision measuring instruments, gauges, tools etc. necessary to check dimensions and conformance to quality requirements
  • Maintain necessary certifications, licenses and permits as required for assigned work

  • Ensure test equipment or tools used to make airworthiness determinations are labeled and current.
  • Request stock as required for the work being performed.
  • Properly record the work performed on the appropriate maintenance record and complete the additional paperwork as required.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Remain cognizant of applicable FAR part 145 and 43.
  • Familiar with the content of the company Repair Station Manual, Quality Control Manual and subsequent revisions.
  • Responsible for recording time of tasks assigned.
  • Immediately communicating to supervision any procedures, practices or habits, if not corrected might lead to injury, inefficiency or un airworthy conditions.

  • Determines when a component should be repaired or replaced; decides upon necessary repair scheme, quantity and type of parts needed to accomplish proper repair; secures necessary parts from Stores or departmental supplies.

  • Performs serviceability tests on repaired components/systems using test equipment specified by the original equipment manufacturer.
  • Completes work package documentation by signing/stamping after finishing all designated operations.
  • Submits completed/in-progress work to Maintenance Lead for review; submits to Quality Assurance for final/in-progress inspection and re-certification of airworthiness.
  • Provides supervisor with performance statistics and other operational data, as requested.
  • Properly accounts for time and materials used in all inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Comply with repair station procedures (RSM /QCM) and company policies (SOP) when performing aircraft or component maintenance.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School/ GED
  • A or P License preferred

Experience:

  • Journeyman Technician Role requiring Intermediate Skills to perform most of the standard tasks within the technical area assigned to.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in at least one aircraft type. Proficiency should be demonstrated in at least one aircraft discipline through prior work experience to include:

Tank Tigers, an STS Aviation Group Company, is hiring entry-level Aircraft Fuel Cell Technicians (Class C) in San Antonio, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a hands-on aviation maintenance career with one of the industry’s most trusted names in aircraft fuel system services.

As a Class C Technician, you will perform preventive maintenance and repair tasks on aircraft fuel systems under the guidance of experienced supervisors. This position offers hands-on experience, ongoing training, and the chance to grow within a global organization dedicated to safety, precision, and excellence.

Job Duties:

  • Perform assigned fuel tank maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with approved maintenance manuals and procedures.
  • Complete and sign off work performed or partially completed maintenance in compliance with FAA and company standards.
  • Follow proper sequencing of maintenance operations to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Request and manage stock or parts required for assigned projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Record all maintenance actions accurately on required documentation and forms.
  • Use approved and properly calibrated tools and equipment when performing maintenance tasks.
  • Report any unsafe practices, inefficiencies, or unairworthy conditions to supervision immediately.
  • Stay familiar with FAA regulations, including FAR Parts 43 and 145, and company Repair Station and Quality Control Manuals.
  • Work flexible hours and be comfortable working in confined spaces, including inside aircraft fuel tanks.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 0–2 years of experience in aviation maintenance or related mechanical work (training provided).
  • Ability to comprehend and perform aircraft fuel system maintenance with instruction.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn complex systems.
  • Capable of fitting into confined spaces and adhering to safety protocols.
