Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and production staff to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Participate in training and evaluation of team members.
  • Review blueprints, setup sheets, manuals, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequence of operations.
  • Measure and mark reference points on materials and workpieces for accurate machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials for use with mills, lathes, borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set machine controls for speed, feed rate, coolant flow, and cutting depth.
  • Operate CNC and conventional machines to perform trial runs and verify setup accuracy.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, making adjustments as needed.
  • Verify finished parts meet blueprint and specification requirements.
  • Install replacement parts, perform functionality tests, and ensure proper performance of equipment.
  • Maintain 5S standards for cleanliness, organization, and efficiency within the department.

Safety Requirements and Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to read, see, hear, and speak English clearly.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds; heavier loads with assistance.
  • May be required to operate cranes and forklifts as needed.
  • Work performed in a warehouse and fabrication shop environment with exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noise.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, cold, and precipitation.
  • Must use tools including hand tools, saws, grinders, mills, lathes, and drill presses.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and steel-toed boots (provided by the company except boots).
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively identify hazards, report issues, and participate in safety training programs.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of machinist experience or equivalent
  • Experience with FANUC controls and horizontal boring machining required

Other Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Able to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
  • Flexibility in working hours and willingness to work overtime as needed.

Shift:

  • Starting on 2nd shift initially but may move to 1st shift
    1st shift – 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 3:00 PM
    2nd shift – Sunday through Thursday 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, 4:00 PM start on Thursdays.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications and retrofit requirements to perform electrical modifications and repairs
  • Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot-level modification and repair of electrical wiring
  • Interpret standard work instructions, charts, tables, blueprints, wire diagrams, formulas, sketches, verbal orders and electronic orders
  • Interpret job layouts and related technical documentation
  • Use all equipment in accordance with established safety and operating procedures
  • Perform all tasks involved in the coordination, preparation and movement of material and tools
  • Maintain necessary Boeing-administered certifications, licenses and permits as required for assigned work
  • Must be able to work various shifts and/or an alternate baseline schedule that may frequently change to support mission requirements
  • Schedule may include weekends and holidays
  • Mission requirements and/or workload may require scheduled and unscheduled overtime

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to operate riding-type electric powered elevating equipment to complete work assignments
  • Ability to troubleshoot organizational and depot maintenance level malfunctions in aircraft electrical systems

FMTV Field Service Representative (50% – 100% Travel)

STS Technical Services is hiring Traveling Field Service Representatives near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington to support military wheeled vehicle maintenance operations. This role is ideal for experienced technicians who are comfortable working independently while representing STS directly to military customers and service providers.

This position requires 50% to 100% travel. When not traveling, Field Service Representatives will report to the assigned local military installation.

Position Overview

The Traveling Field Service Representative is responsible for deprocessing military wheeled vehicles, troubleshooting mechanical systems, performing repairs, coordinating parts ordering, and documenting deficiencies. You will serve as the primary point of contact for customers at each supported site and represent the full STS team in the field.
