STS Technical Services is hiring Heavy Equipment Mechanics in Temple, Texas. This role supports the readiness and modernization of U.S. Army platforms, including the M109A7 and M992A3. As part of the Field Modification Team, you will perform mechanical maintenance, install modification kits, and troubleshoot system faults in combat vehicles. This position requires frequent travel, up to 75 percent, to domestic and international field locations.

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, system troubleshooting, and vehicle modifications in support of U.S. Army combat platforms. This role is critical to ensuring vehicles remain mission-capable and meet modernization standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on military vehicle systems, including power plants, fuel, air induction, exhaust, cooling, starting/charging, electrical, and hydraulics
  • Install modifications and retrofits on combat vehicles such as M109A7 and M992A3, with potential work on additional platforms
  • Operate combat vehicles to verify mission readiness
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and work instructions
  • Disassemble vehicle sub-systems for inspection, maintenance, or modification
  • Use shop tools and equipment for modification kit installation (cutting, grinding, drilling, tapping, welding, and painting)
  • Apply software and firmware updates to vehicle systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair system faults
  • Maintain accountability and serviceability of tools and equipment
  • Document work performed using MS Office and provide accurate reports

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on vehicle maintenance experience
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear required PPE

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance, and repairs of airframe and powerplant systems and components in accordance with approved methods and practices

  • Document all maintenance activity per Regulatory and Repair Station/Quality Manual procedures

Qualifications

Position Overview:

Maintain, repair, modify, fabricate, and installation of parts, items, and assemblies of structural components using current technical data such as blue prints or manufacturers drawings/manuals.  Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs both internal and external aircraft structures and surfaces for aircraft repair.  Performs repairs with varying sheet metal types, and thicknesses.  Remove and replace of various fastener types such as solid rivets, blind rivet, HI-Loc, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:                            

  • Must have ability to read and follow all work instructions, as well as properly document work performed using documents such as process planning, adhesive log sheets, Material Review Board/Engineering Work Orders (MRB/EWO’s), Process Specifications, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Manuals, etc.
  • Must be able to read basic blueprints
  • Must be able to use close tolerance measuring tools (i.e., scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gages, etc.).
  • Must be able to use hand tools (i.e., drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, fastener installation tools, etc.).
  • Must have ability to perform alignment/assembly using jig, templates and fixtures.
  • Must be able to perform trimming burring, countersinking, riveting, drilling and reaming to blueprint specified tolerance.

  • Experience performing mechanical assembly in an aircraft, automotive, or similar environment is preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED equivalent

As a bond technician you will perform repairs on parts /components by means of “Wet Layup” and “Prepreg”.  Some repairs must be facilitated by the use of a clean room and cured by means of an autoclave.  Types of Composite bonding methods utilized in repair may consist of: Co-curing, Co-bonding, secondary bonding, metal bonding, with adhesives in liquid form, and film.

Duties & Responsibilities:                            

  • Repairs are made in accordance with current technical data and procedures.
  • Must be able to read basic blueprints
  • Must be able to use close tolerance measuring tools (i.e., scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gages, etc.).
  • Must be able to use hand tools (i.e., drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, fastener installation tools, etc.).
  • Must have ability to perform alignment/assembly using jig, templates and fixtures.
  • PPE must be used when cutting, grinding, blending, and sanding
  • Extensive use of bagging materials
  • Must be able to properly bag for a wide range of component shapes and styles.
  • Capable of using a “Hot-Bonder” type machine cure procedure.

Position Summary:

The Sheet Metal Fabrication Technician works under minimal supervision to support the fabrication of complex parts and subassemblies used in the interior completion of VIP aircraft. You’ll work with a variety of tools, techniques, and materials to ensure all components meet design specifications and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate high-quality sheet metal parts in accordance with company-approved procedures and engineering specifications
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and material specs
  • Coordinate material requests to ensure timely workflow and avoid production delays
  • Accurately complete all documentation and sign-offs in compliance with FAA and company regulations
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure proper use of tools and equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follow departmental guidelines and contribute to process improvements
  • Support other tasks as assigned within the scope of fabrication and assembly

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school education is a plus
  • Basic understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, particularly in an aviation or aerospace completions environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation and blueprints
  • Fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills

Work Environment:

This position is located in an active aircraft hangar and fabrication facility. The role requires regular exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, weather fluctuations, and potential safety hazards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict adherence to safety standards are required.
