Position Summary

The Avionics Technician performs maintenance, testing, repair, and installation of aircraft communication, navigation, radar, flight control, and electronic instrument systems. This position requires precision, regulatory compliance, and the ability to interpret complex wiring diagrams and OEM technical data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and special maintenance inspections on aircraft electrical and avionics systems
  • Conduct operational and functional checks on navigation, communication, flight control, and instrumentation systems
  • Fabricate wiring harnesses and install or modify avionics and electrical systems
  • Determine whether components require repair or replacement and secure required parts
  • Follow FAA-approved procedures and OEM technical data
  • Inspect completed work prior to sign-off and perform rework as required
  • Conduct serviceability testing using manufacturer-specified test equipment
  • Complete work package documentation and sign or stamp designated operations
  • Install digital avionics equipment
  • Interpret avionics and electrical wiring diagrams
  • Perform wire identification, harness fabrication, cable integrity checks, and connector assembly
  • Adjust, repair, or replace malfunctioning components using hand tools and soldering equipment
  • Install electrical and electronic assemblies using appropriate tools
  • Interpret flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance issues
  • Set up and operate ground support and test equipment
  • Test components using circuit testers, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters
  • Troubleshoot, repair, rework, and modify worn or defective assemblies and systems

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current A&P License or FAA Repairman Certificate in Avionics required
  • FCC License preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of actual and recent depot-level aircraft avionics experience required
  • Experience repairing electrical systems, flight control systems, instrumentation, and wiring
  • Proficiency interpreting avionics and electrical wiring diagrams
  • Experience with wire identification, harness fabrication, cables, fittings, circuits, and connectors
  • Executive jet repair facility experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose operating errors and system malfunctions
  • Ability to install avionics and electrical systems to meet technical specifications
  • Proficiency repairing systems using appropriate tools and equipment

Job Duties:

  • Performs repair/overhaul work for the component wheel/brake shop.
  • Repairs and overhauls components and accessories are carried out in accordance with FAA and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) repair procedures and policies, and ensures conformance to prescribed standards and tolerances.
  • Carries out diagnostic, repair and overhaul tasks along with technicians and specialists, observing approved and prescribed procedures.
  • Personally carries out or assists specialists in carrying out technically complex repairs.
  • Follows appropriate manual references and utilizes proper tools in performing their repair duties, mainly focused on wheel, landing gear and brake repairs.
  • Follows production schedule; works with the shop Lead and Production Maintenance Supervisor to implement ways to remedy behind schedule conditions.
  • Follows work orders and repair orders to see that all documentation has been completed; assists in the maintenance records and technical data required by the FAA.
  • Monitors and tracks parts shortages, supports the ordering of materials to alleviate shortage conditions.
  • Briefing Lead or Production Maintenance Supervisor concerning repairs for quotations.
  • Creates purchase requisitions for parts and tooling required.
  • Communicates any tooling requirements that may be needed to Lead or Production Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Communications via email, telephone, and in person may be required.
  • Works with Lead to schedule any third party vendor tasks or services.

Qualifications:

  • High School/ GED
  • A&P license preferred, relevant experience or repairman certificate may substitute for A&P license
  • MS Office, Internet, Component Control, Lotus Notes
  • 2-4 years of experience with wheel / brake / landing gear repair or overhaul
  • FAA repair station experience or component shop experience

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform close-tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures (doublers, triplers, seat tracks, stringers, etc.)
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, blueprints, schematics, and OEM specifications
  • Conduct sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving of structural components
  • Work with aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and other non-porous metals
  • Use professional hand tools and specialty tools including 45- and 90-degree drills, rivet guns, countersink cages, pancake adapters, and more
  • Guide and mentor junior technicians and collaborate on complex modification efforts
  • Operate forklifts, cranes, and powered elevating equipment
  • Use computer systems to access documentation, submit part requests, and complete maintenance records
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Perform quality inspections and make entries in aircraft logs and records as needed
  • Maintain flexibility in shift scheduling, including potential nights, weekends, and holidays

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of heavy aircraft structures experience (transport-category aircraft)
  • Experience with non-porous metals: aluminum, titanium, stainless steel
  • Demonstrated ability with close-tolerance structural repairs and tooling
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering documents, and technical manuals
  • Familiarity with shop math and general aviation maintenance practices
  • Proficient in basic computer applications and aircraft-related software systems
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under physically demanding conditions
  • Must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain customer approval for aircraft access
  • Dual citizenship or prior foreign citizenship may preclude access

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on VIP or specialty aircraft interiors within the past 10 years
  • Prior experience supporting military aircraft, special mission platforms, or government contracts
  • Knowledge of structural systems on wide-body aircraft or presidential support aircraft

Position Summary

  • Assist with fabrication, corrosion control, and basic repairs
  • Work under close supervision

Level II – Skilled / Independent Technician (5+ Years Experience)

  • Perform advanced structural repairs with minimal supervision
  • Fabricate and modify aircraft structural components
  • Install close tolerance, high-strength fasteners
  • Conduct corrosion repair and structural modifications
  • Work independently from technical documentation
  • Support rigging, weight and balance, and system checks as needed

Level III – Senior / Subject Matter Expert (12+ Years Experience)

  • Lead complex structural repairs and depot-level modifications
  • Develop and execute repair solutions using engineering data
  • Mentor and train junior mechanics
  • Recommend process improvements and repair methodologies
  • Perform expert-level fabrication, structural analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards

Core Responsibilities

  • Inspect and assess aircraft structural damage
  • Perform repairs using approved technical data and procedures
  • Utilize advanced metalworking techniques and tooling
  • Manufacture and install structural components and repairs
  • Maintain strict tool control and support FOD prevention programs
  • Document all maintenance activities in compliance with QA and regulatory requirements
  • Support safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Operate and maintain aircraft support equipment as required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Aircraft structural maintenance experience required based on level
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals
  • Strong understanding of aircraft structures and fabrication methods
  • Depot-level experience strongly preferred for higher levels
  • FAA A&P certification is a plus, not required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance

  • Direct-hire position supporting a Government contract
  • Based in Huntsville, Alabama
  • 4×10 day shift schedule
